Turkish Language and Culture Week
Overview:
Combine lessons in basic Turkish with an insight into real
Turkish life, culture, traditions and food.
DAY 1:
Arrive at your accommodation and enjoy a welcome drink and
evening meal hosted by Bulent, your guide and teacher for
the week. (If you arrive on a Monday, visit the market in
the town.)
DAY 2:
Enjoy a delicious Turkish breakfast, followed by your first
lesson in Turkish. Learn common greetings, and how to
introduce yourself to others. Later, take a walking tour of
the town. Learn about Turkish etiquette and hospitality-
visit a Turkish house for tea.
DAY 3:
Cruise across the lake on your private boat to the ancient
city of Caunos. Learn about its history, and explore the
excavations of this amazing site with your guide. Back on
the lake enjoy a refreshing swim before your lunch and an
informal lesson on Turkish food, and how to order things in
restaurants. Visit the natural thermal springs and mud
baths on the edge of the lake.
DAY 4:
After breakfast learn about numbers and money in Turkish, as
well as how to ask about prices and buy things in shops.
Later, enjoy a trip to the local hamam (Turkish bath). Spend
the rest of the day relaxing by the pool or sipping ‘cay’
(tea) by the lake.
DAY 5:
Turkish village tour- watch or take part in seasonal work.
This will vary depending on the time of year and may include
drying peppers and aubergines, extracting pomegranate juice,
making cheese and yoghurt, preparing olives and pickles,
making jam, or picking citrus fruits. Your teacher and guide
will teach points of interest throughout the day.
DAY 6:
Evening barbeque and Turkish night- folk dancing.
DAY 7:
Reluctantly, we say good-bye and transfer you back to the
airport.
